TBA’s 2nd Album. BRIGHT AS DIAMONDS.
The Brixton Academy [TBA] are Naoto (Vo. Synth.), Yone (Cho, Guitar, Synth), Yoshi (Bass), Ryo (Drums). Formed back in 2005 in the doldrums of the Tokyo indie scene, these four likely lads fused their electro-synth pop with sounds of the UK new wave and new romantic scenes to produce one of our favourite Japanese come British sounding pop acts that we fortunately had the pleasure of hearing DJ as LOVE ACTION at our CONTROL party in Tokyo. ‘Bright As Diamonds’ is their second album due for release later this month on September 28. On listening we were greeted with a host of 80′s synths and funky basslines mixed with poppy vocal harmonies and excellent lead vocals form Naoto reminding us of Paul Heaton’s House Martin days. From there we explore guitar-rock in ‘Youth’, and then dark keyboard rhythms in ‘Pyxis’ that Andy Fletcher would be proud of, this all leads up to a drum led ‘When My Anthem Was Played’. All in all an excellent second album, well done TBA!
