Tokyoheads – Mr. A (Damage)

Following our interview with Osaka’s sickest band; Damage… we drank more beer with Mr. A, and asked him some of life’s big questions.

Have a gander…

What is going to be big this summer?

Damage!

What has been the highlight of your year so far?

Releasing our new album; Mouth to Mouth, and playing at Fuji Rock.

Who is your favorite musician of all time?

Personally… Brian Eno and David Byrne. I really like 80′s new wave bands from New York, like The Slits. As a band, our favorites are probably Ritchie Hawtin, Diplo, MIA, Skream and Benga.

Where is your favorite place in Tokyo?

Koenji- my friend used to live there, and it feels familiar for me, because the atmosphere is really similar to Osaka. In Osaka, my favorite place is Nishinari [at this point, our translator Manami screamed “Ghetto!”]. They have a great junk market there on a morning, and you can find old synths that usually cost ¥100,000, for as cheap as ¥1,000!

What are your favorite fashion brands/styles?

I love indie brands, some of my friends design clothes and give me them! Pussymo is my favorite brand. My friend Nao-rock, the drummer from Creams, is the designer. She is designing the clothes for Damage’s Fuji Rock performance!

What is the last thing you bought?

Sunglasses, from a recycle shop in Osaka.

What is the last song you listened to?

Art of Noise… or something by PiL. They are my recent favorites!

What is you karaoke song?

I don’t go to Karaoke.

Who is the coolest guy and girl that you know?

Guy- DJ Tuttle. He is a dubstep DJ from Osaka. He’s been playing dubstep for the last 6 years!

Girl- Nao-rock (Pussymo/Creams) and Yoshimi from Boredoms.

Recommend something new!

‘Curl’… it’s my favorite corn snack! I always eat snacks! Haha! And whipped cream!

Fuji Rock or Summer Sonic?

Fuji Rock.

Tokyo or Osaka?

Both. Each city has it’s own good points.

Question from DJ RS- “Do you like to go to a club alone?”

No, I always go with a lot of friends!

Please make a question for our next Tokyoheads interview.

“When do you wanna get crazy?”

Finally, what do you never leave your house without?

Money! About ¥2000.

Thanks a lot Mr. A! For more info on Damage, check out their homepage.

‘Mouth to Mouth’ is available on iTunes.

COME TO DAMAGE’S ALBUM RELEASE PARTY AT CLUB ASIA ON 9/23… more info coming soon.
