Oioi It’s DJ and Producer Roska.
As you have probably heard there is an upcoming Numbers Tokyo Party at Module with a guest spot reserved for Roska. Well with thanks for the hook up from Numbers Tokyo Founder P.O.L. Style. We have managed to get hold of a quick Interview courtesy of Metropolis Magazine. Here goes…
How did you become a DJ/producer?
It was a hobby which started in 1999
Tell us about your involvement with the early UK garage scene and how those experiences shaped you.
I wasnt really involved in the garage scene as much as i wanted to be. very difficult to apply myself and actually be a part of. I was only an MC then and made a few tunes in which I didnt push.
What are the good and bad points of today’s UK club scene?
It seems to be evolving ad open to new sounds all the time which is a good thing. I cant really fault the club scene at the moment as its given way for artists like myself to emerge.
Tell us why you named your label Kicks and Snares and how it is currently evolving.
It sums up the style I am involved in and it doesnt sound serious as music is meant to be fun.
Tell us about a new production.
I have an EP called Jackpot which came out on Rinse in July which consists of 6 instrumental tracks full of bass.
Tell us about your upcoming Japan tour.
I have 3 dates – Hiroshima, Tokyo and Osaka. I see many of you following me on Facebook and Twitter so it will be good to push and introduce my sounds over there and see all you guys!
When you DJ, do you use vinyl, CDs or laptop. Which and why?
I use Serato with CD’s. It’s much easier to transport to clubs and overseas.
What gets you yourself moving on the dance floor?
A nice steady beat. Maybe an 808 kick drum with a nice melody.
Make sure you make time to go see Roska at Numbers w/ Roska on Sunday the 18th September at Module.
