Meet Brian…
Meet Holy Fuck’s Canadian Singer-Songwriter Brian Borcherdt as we catch up with him and the rest of Holy Fuck in Tokyo. We managed to get Brian on his own and popped off a few quick fire questions…
What is going to be big in 2011?
Funny hats and dumpling restaurants. The Magic Bag Font [A band].
Who are your favorite musicians of all time?
Mozart was pretty good, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Toru Takemitsu.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Right here! Wherever I am.
What is the last thing you bought?
A travel adapter and a travel mug.
What is the last song you listened to?
Actually a band that I think will be big in 2011, they’re called The Luyas.
What is the greatest gig you’ve ever played?
The gig we just played in Australia.
What is the worst gig you’ve ever played?
Depends who you ask… I played one on my own just before we got our shit together and it was a total failure, but it was a lesson in life. It scared the shit outta me and I really embarrassed myself in NYC at a really trendy spot, and I felt kinda crushed, but you know, it’s like the Aaliyah song, ‘dust yourself off and try again’. It’s a good lesson for kids out there you know; don’t be afraid to have a shitty gig, just keep trying!
Who are your favorite Japanese musicians?
Toru Takemitsu
Please recommend something new (anything!)
The Luyas
What do you never leave your house without?
My shoes and a sense of adventure.
Question from MOGWAI; “How many press ups can you do?“
The most I could do was somewhere between 25 and 30, but then I got lazy and I drank a lot of beer on this last tour, so I’m probably back to about 12! The last time I did 10, but I got bored.
Please make a question, which we will ask to the next band we interview.
Oh, that question was from Mogwai!? Ok, erm… purple or blue?
Cheers Brian!
If you liked that, then you’ll bloody love reading our full feature interview with Holy Fuck.
