Don’t Let The Name Fool You, Dusty John Thomas Are Neither Dirty Nor Cocks…
They’re bloody good DJ’s. LHz and 2G are Dusty John Thomas and not only have we have had our grubby hands on their Mix CD for a couple weeks now but we have also had the pleasure of seeing them DJ live and ask them a few questions.
1- What is going to be big this year?
LHz: Well, Right now, we’re making the second DUSTY original T-shirts. The artwork was done by 2G and friend Pigment Liner, and the result looks very nice, and I think we would be able to show them around the start of next month. This year’s plan is probably to make music. Right now, being good DJ’s is our priority, making people dance to a song we created is the greatest!
2G: Yeah, we really want to continue making music. For me, I want to make a different kind of music, so I really look forward to making more music. Oh, and I want to have our own party this year. All the parties like Disco Teenage Kicks or bunny., that meant a lot to me have ended…. But there are tons of other awesome parties in Tokyo, we want to pump up Tokyo electro as organizers.
LHz:僕達の事になってしまうが、今現在DUSTYオリジナルTシャツの第二弾を製作中。アートワークを2Gと友人であるPigment Linerにお願いしているのだけど、とてもカッコイイ仕上がりになっていて来月頭にはお披露目出来そう。あとは今年の予定として楽曲製作かな。今DJとしてすごく欲が出てきていて、僕達が表現したいオリジナルの曲を作ってそれで踊ってくれる人がいるのって最高の瞬間だと思うんだよね。
2G:そうだね、楽曲製作はしていきたいね。僕の場合は今のDUSTYのイメージとは、少し違った楽曲を作っていきたいと思っているから、楽曲提供とかもしていきたいな。あと、今年中に僕達のPartyをもちたいな。Disco Teenage Kicksやbunny.とか、個人的に衝撃を受けたPartyが終わってしまったしね…。でも東京にはまだまだ楽しいPartyが沢山あるから、僕達もオーガナイザーの立場から東京electroを盛り上げていきたいな。
2- Who is your favorite band/artist/producer of all time?
LHz: Out of all our favorite artists, I’ll have to say Dusty Kid is the best. I remember when we became DJ’s, That Cat impacted us. The ‘DUSTY’ in DUSTY JOHN THOMAS is taken from Dusty Kid.
2G: Yeah! The first time we were inspired was when we heard Dusty Kid. Unfortunately we couldn’t see them when they came over which was really disappointing.
LHz:好きなアーティストなどたくさんいる中で僕達に関連付けるとしたらDusty Kidかな。僕達がDJを始めた当時The Catが衝撃的だったのをとても覚えているDUSTY JOHN THOMASのDUSTYもDusty Kidが好きで、僕達もDUSTYはつけたいねって話していて決めたんだよね。
2G:そうだったよね。僕達が一番最初に影響されたのが、Dusty Kidだったね。The Catを軸にset listを組んだりしていたしね。こないだ来日した時行けなかったのは 本当残念だった
3- Where is your favorite place in Tokyo?
LHz: Hatudai. It’s the place where I’ve been living since I was a student. It’s really comfortable.
2G: I have to go with Shibuya. It’s the place where I met all my friends.
LHz:初台かな。学生時代からずっと住んでいる場所だからとても居心地がいいよ。
2G:やっぱり渋谷かな。今繋がっている人達と出会えた街だからね。
4- What are you favorite fashion brands/styles?
LHz: DIET BUTHCER SLIM SKIN and PETAR; both of them make high quality things.
2G: Probably RAF SIMONS. Their organized patterns and silhouette is beautiful.
LHz:DIET BUTHCER SLIM SKIN とPETAR PETROVかな。どちらも大量生産のこの時代の中、ハイクオリティの物づくりをしているからね。
2G:RAF SIMONSかな。RAFの構築的なパターンやシルエットは本当に美しいと思う。
5- What is the last thing you bought?
LHz: Cigarettes, alcohol, and a song. I can’t help myself!
2G: Gramophonedize-Why don’t you 12LP. It was really close to the kind of music I want to create; I bought it the second I heard it!
LHz:煙草とお酒と曲。これから先もずっと付き合っていく物達かな。
2G:Gramophonedzie-Why don’t you 12LP。僕のやっていきたい楽曲製作に近かったから、聴いた瞬間買っていたな。
6- What is the last song you listened to?
LHz: Right now, I’m listening to DA MONDE’s BPM Trip3 and Jack Beats’sEssential Mix. Both of them are a really good mix. On May 3, Jack Beats is going to come to Japan, so I’m really excited.
LHz:今インタビューをやりながらDA MONDEのBPM Trip3とJack BeatsのEssentialMixを聴いている。両方とも本当良いMIXだよ。5月3日にはJack Beatsが来日するからとても楽しみにしている。
7- Who is the coolest guy AND the coolest girl on the tokyo party scene at the moment?
2G: Out of all of us, the coolest is Death Is Not My Aim. Master’s MIXskill and Naxxx’s choosing skills; these two really have charm, and without Death’s Naxxx, DUSTY JOHN THOMAS wouldn’t exist.
LHz: And CHERRY BOYS, smoooch!, DA MONDE, @be, and Lie… (who I always work well with) They are the coolest people in Tokyo! CHERRY BOYS are doing great, and Tokyo Cherry, a party that they organize, is something I look forward to! I owe it to the CHERRY BOYS because they always let me go to Tokyo Cherry, and I can meet a lot of people. Smoooch!’s performance is great, their mix skill is high, and I love them both. A little while ago, bunny. (the party we organized together) ended, but smoooch! restarted as lone DJs, so they’re definitely something you can count on. DA MONDE is a great DJ. The music he makes gets my attention, and he is definitely a track maker you can’t take your eyes off. He organizes, La Musique, that’s where I met Tom and Matt and got this great interview opportunity. We’re really thankful. @be is another organizer who I always work with. He loves to give people who come to his parties a time they’ll never forget. He’s definitely someone we look up to. Lie… is someone we work together alot with, and they’re funny. Lie…’s original T-shirt was placed in XANDDU; they’re really creative. We want to continue working together with them. And there’s YO YO YOS (who cause chaos where ever they go), Lilith who always put on a good show. There’s so many people who are great, and if I list all of them it’ll be too long, so I’ve tried to keep it short. Let me use this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support, we hope to see you in the future.
2G:僕らの中で一番クールであるのがDeath Is Not My Aimかな。MasterのMIXスキルとNaxxxの選曲スキル、二人には本当に魅了される。それにDeathのNaxxxがいなければDUSTY JOHN THOMASは生まれてないしね。
LHz:あとは東京という多くの人がいる場所で、一際輝いているのがCHERRYBOYS、smoooch!、DA MONDE、@beに、常に一緒に頑張ってきたLie…かな。CHERYY BOYSの勢いは今とてもすごいし、彼らがオーガナイズしているTokyo Cherryというパーティーもとても面白く今後も楽しみなパーティーだよ。Tokyo Cherryにいつも出さしてもらっているおかげで本当沢山の人と知り合えたし、CHERYY BOYSにはとても感謝もしている。Smoooch!はパフォーマンスも凄いしMIXスキルも高いし、人としてもとても大好きな二人なんだよね。こないだ彼らのオーガナイズしていたbunny.は終わってしまったけど、smoooch!は今DJとして再スタートしているから今後どうなっていくか要注目だと思う。DA MONDEは純粋にDJとしてとてもクール。そんな彼が作っている楽曲はとても興味があるし、今後目が離せないトラックメーカーの一人だと思う。彼のオーガナイズするLa MusiqueでTomとMattに出会えてこのような機会をもらえたのは本当嬉しいよ。@beは僕達がいつもお世話になっているLinkのオーガナイザーなんだけど、パーティーに来てくれている人達に楽しんでもらいたいって気持ちが凄く強い人なんだ。純粋で熱い気持ちを持っているから僕達もとても大好きな人なんだよね。Lie…は僕達と常に一緒に頑張ってきていて本当に面白い二人なんだよね。Lie…のオリジナルTシャツがXANADUに置かれていたりと、とてもクリエイティブな二人で今後も一緒に頑張っていきたい二人だよ。他にもいつどんな場所でもCHAOSを巻き起こすYO YO YOSに、常にアウトサイダーなパーティーを企画するLilithと東京には本当多くの人達がいて皆を紹介するってなると、とても長くなってしまうから僕の中で一際クールな人達を紹介させてもらったよ。でも自分達のオーガナイズするパーティーもなく無名な僕達をブッキングしてくれたり関わってくれたり踊ってくれたりした人達に本当に感謝しているし、他にもクールな人やクールなパーティーと沢山あった。この場を借りて感謝の気持ちを伝えたいし、今後もっと楽しませられるように僕達も努力していく。
8- Please recommend a new band, dj, designer or artist to our readers.
LHz: For me, Harvard Bass. Age doesn’t matter, but when I found out that he was younger than me, I was shocked! His music is really good for dancing.
2G: Gramphoendzie. These guys are my favorite artist!
LHz:僕はHarvard Bassかな。年なんて関係ないけど正直年下と知った時は、本当にビックリした。彼の楽曲はとても気持ちよく踊れるんだよね。
2G:Gramophonedzieかな。個人的な好みになってしまうんだけど、remixerとしても面白いしいま一番好きなアーティストかな。
9- Fuji Rock or Summer Sonic?
LHz: Probably Fuji Rock. I’m looking forward to RUSKO and RIVA STARR as well as BOYS NOIZE and MGMT, MIIIKE SNOW, and from Japan: DEX and MYSS.It’s definitely going to be a fun-fest.
2G: Agreed. More than anything else, the fact that we can dance is the best thing.
LHz:Fuji Rockかな。今年の僕の目玉はRUSKOとRIVA STARRかな。他にもBOYS NOIZEにMGMTにMIIKE SNOWに日本からもDEXやMYSSなど楽しいフェスになる事間違いない面子だね。
2G:LHzに同感だね。何より自然を楽しみながら踊れるのはとても魅力的だと思う。
10- Tokyo or Osaka?
LHz: I have to go with Tokyo. But I think that’s because I don’t know much about Osaka. I’m really interested in Osaka’s electro scenes.
2G: There’s a lot of important people in Tokyo and I love it, but in Osaka,there’s many interesting things there also…that’s a really hard question.
LHz:東京かな。でもそれは大阪の事をあまり知らないだけの事かも知れないな。大阪のelectroシーンはとても興味があるしね。
2G:東京は大切な人が沢山いるから東京が好きだけど、大阪にも魅力的なモノが沢山あるから…難しい質問だな…。
